My first sound class was in 2016 at New York City College of Technology, that was also the first time I buy an over-ear headphone for monitor and editing. I brought a HAS-10 from Lyx Pro . I brought it because I saw that they advertise it's a pair of monitor headphone. I did email Lyxpro for a frequency response chart of the headphone, but they never send that to me. So I was wondering if I could do a measurement of the headphone myself to find out the frequency response. During that time I just start to learn about audio, and I didn't hear about transfer function . Not until 2017, I took the sound system class. That's the first time I hear about transfer function and Smaart . In 2018 I took the Smaart fundamentals class. That's the time I learn how to do a frequency response measurement. Enough storytime, here is the measurement I got for my headphones. I did the measurement using Smaart V8. I used a Yamaha O1V96 to generate pink noise , sent to a Yamaha Ri8. I use...
I'm feeling grateful that I can call this newly re-renovated concert hall, my new David Geffen Hall ! I only went to the David Geffen Hall once before the renovation for a concert from Nyack College School of Music . The concert took place at the Wu Tsai Theater , which is the main hall of David Geffen Hall. I intentionally pick a seat that's farther away so I can really listen to the acoustic. It was not bad, but there are some musical instruments I can not hear clearly. The view of the stage also seems a way from the audience. After the renovation, the view of the stage to every seat is definitely better. The stage has moved about 25 feet forward, and now there are sits behind the stage. The performers are now surrounded by audiences. The stage is now able to adapt to different performances. View before the re-renovation Similar angle after the re-renovation Even the last roll of the house, the view is still good. I didn't join this project till the very end of it, but I...
I graduated from New York City College of Technology with a major in Entertainment Technology , with a concentration in both audio and show control. For my culminating project, I did a double-blind testing of two professional sound consoles with the guidance of Professor John Huntington . Click HERE for all details. Professor Huntington had an article published in Pro Sound Web . The article was number 14 in the top 20 most-read articles on the Pro Sound Website in 2019.
This is the last show I did in 2021with SDN Broadcast . I was the engineer in charge of this hybrid show at Spring Studio . We are one of the hubs around the world, sending and receiving audio and video through vMix . The central hub was in France. They did the mix program mix that sends to different hubs. We take care of all the local program mix in the New York venue. We have a full audio and video production team set up in New York. A video TD to call and cut for the three Blackmagic Design URSA cameras at house left and house right, and two PTZ cameras. A professional camera shader for the three URSA cameras. A stage manager to work with the show caller in France to call the show. Like when will be different talents be on stage, and what DSM they are getting. We have a professional teleprompter on site. The DSM can show the program feed from France, or the teleprompter. We have a very good A1 and two A2 to take care of all the house PA, and intercom, and the audio mix m...
