QLab Load Time Scrip

Image
After using QLab for a few years, I noticed a recurring theme during tight cue-to-cue rehearsals. Directors and designers would constantly ask, "Can we just jump to the last 10 or 15 seconds of this cue so we can see the next transition?" While QLab has an excellent built-in "Load to time" function, digging through menus to type in a timestamp takes too long when you need to react in a split second. I needed a hotkey solution. I dove into QLab scripting, and with some incredible help from the Figure 53 support team, I built an script that handles this instantly. Below is an video and explanation of how the script works, why it's built the way it is, and how you can use it to speed up your tech rehearsals. Below is an example to load the selected cue to the last 10 seconds. tell application id "com.figure53.QLab.4" to tell front workspace     try         repeat with currentCue in (selected as list)         ...

Smaart Measurement for My Headphones

Image
My first sound class was in 2016 at New York City College of Technology, that was also the first time I buy an over-ear headphone for monitor and editing. I brought a HAS-10 from Lyx Pro . I brought it because I saw that they advertise it's a pair of monitor headphone. I did email Lyxpro for a frequency response chart of the headphone, but they never send that to me. So I was wondering if I could do a measurement of the headphone myself to find out the frequency response. During that time I just start to learn about audio, and I didn't hear about  transfer function . Not until 2017, I took the sound system class. That's the first time I hear about transfer function and  Smaart . In 2018 I took the Smaart fundamentals class. That's the time I learn how to do a frequency response measurement. Enough storytime, here is the measurement I got for my headphones.  I did the measurement using Smaart V8. I used a Yamaha O1V96 to generate pink noise , sent to a Yamaha Ri8. I use...

ABX Console Listening Test

Image
I graduated from New York City College of Technology with a major in Entertainment Technology , with a concentration in both audio and show control. For my culminating project, I did a double-blind testing of two professional sound consoles with the guidance of Professor John Huntington . Click HERE   for all details. Professor Huntington had an article published in Pro Sound Web . The article was number 14 in the top 20 most-read articles on the Pro Sound Website in 2019.

Show System Integration Medialon Basic Project at City Tech

Image
Ever wondered what it takes to control lights, video, and audio — all from a single keyboard? Here's a behind-the-scenes look at a hands-on project I built with my classmate Daniel Hui during our Advanced Show Control class with the incredible Professor John Huntington at City Tech. What Did We Build? We created a fully integrated show control system using Medialon — a powerful platform used by real professionals in live events and theme entertainment. Here's what we had running: 🎬 A BrightSign player — handling audio and video playback 💡 A MIDI-controlled dimmer — bringing a light fixture under our command 🎹 A MIDI keyboard as the trigger — the magic controller that triggers different events By mapping different keys on the keyboard, we could fire off audio, video, and lighting cues on demand — just like a real show operator would in a professional production environment. Or how guests can interact with the experiment in a themed environment. See It in Action! Check out ...
